🔎 TL;DR
- Progreso (Yucatán) is the anti-Cancún for SUP: shallow Gulf water, mangroves, zero cruise-boat traffic off-season.
- Wind sweet spot: 6–10 am before the afternoon Norte picks up.
- Four routes: Chelem lagoon, Chicxulub jetty loop, Chuburná mangroves, coastal 5 km.
The four routes
1. Chelem lagoon inner (beginner). 2 km loop. Shallow, flamingo sightings Nov–Mar, pelicans year-round.
2. Chicxulub jetty loop (beginner–intermediate). 3 km. Historic fishing jetty where the asteroid impact crater's edge is. Bird-dense.
3. Chuburná mangrove channels (intermediate, guided). 5 km, 3 hours. Narrow channels, dense mangrove tunnels.
4. Progreso–Chicxulub coastal (advanced). 5 km one-way along the shallow Gulf. Boat support recommended.
