Windsurf in Mexico — Lessons, Rentals & Downwinders

Windsurf lessons, board rentals and downwind tours in Mexico's best wind spots. Consistent trade winds of 15–25 knots November to June, warm Caribbean water, flat lagoons for learning and open-water chop for progression.

We operate at Isla Blanca (the flat-water mecca) and on the Nichupté lagoon in Cancun. Our gear covers every level — from beginner-friendly 200-liter wide boards to race and slalom setups for advanced riders.

Foot and rig tuning, drysuit-free riding, friendly locals and the same trade winds that power our kitesurf school.

Why windsurf Mexico

Why windsurfers love the Mexican Caribbean

Frequently asked questions

Is windsurf harder than kitesurf?

Generally windsurf is easier to start, harder to master. Most people are up and sailing in 2 hours. Kitesurf takes 3 days to ride but progresses faster afterwards. Both are doable in a week-long trip.

What gear do you have?

Beginner wide boards (150–200 L), intermediate freeride boards (110–140 L), advanced slalom and wave setups, plus windfoil rigs. Sails from 3.5 m² to 8.5 m² in current model years (2024–2025).

When is wind season in the Mexican Caribbean?

November through June, with peak conditions March to May (consistent 18–25 knots, side-on shore). Outside that, wind is less predictable and August–October is hurricane/low-wind season.

Can beginners really learn in one session?

A 2-hour intro lesson is enough to get most people tacking, jibing and going upwind on a beginner board. Full independence usually takes 2–3 days of lessons. After that you can rent independently.

Do I need to be fit?

Basic swimming + moderate fitness. Windsurf uses legs and core more than arms — with harness and footstraps, even long sessions are manageable. We adapt rig size and lesson intensity to your level.

Can I do windsurf and kitesurf in the same trip?

Yes — many riders do both. We offer combined windsurf + kitesurf packages with the same team, same school, same booking process. Take advantage of having two world-class wind sports in one spot.

What if there's no wind?

No wind = no charge. We monitor forecasts 48 hours ahead and reschedule. If your trip is short and we can't find a window, we refund in full or credit the session.

Do you rent gear independently?

Yes, to riders with VDWS Level 3 (or equivalent) proof of skill. If you don't have certification but can sail upwind we offer supervised rentals with a safety boat. Beginners always start with lessons.

Can I bring my own gear?

Absolutely. Supervised sessions, rig-repair services and airline bag tips available. Storage on-site during your trip if you don't want to haul gear between hotel and spot.

Do you offer windfoil instruction?

Yes. Windfoil progression coaching for intermediate+ riders with 3+ years of classic windsurf. We have dedicated foil boards and wings in a range of sizes.
